Pipeline Trail

Pipeline Trail

(At the bottom of the page, use the buttons below to download or print)

Another hike in the Bajo Mono area is the Pipeline Trail or "Hidden Waterfall".  The waterfall at the end of this trail is at least 300 ft tall.

If you follow the step by step directions to Bajo Mono ( and 1 km past the "Lost Castle", you will come to this somewhat crossroad (pictured below).  Turning right takes you to the "Lost Waterfalls" and Baru National Park.  To the left takes you back to Boquete.  However, directly in front of you is a dirt/gravel path.  Take that!

Go where you see the dark blue SUV heading on the dirt/gravel path in this photo.

(special note:  If you do not have a vehicle and want to make this hike, you can jump on one of the vans near Central Park *located next to Bruna Super Mercado* that has "Bajo Mono" written on the windshield.  They pretty much know to make a stop at this crossroad for the hikers)

As soon as you turn on the path, you'll see this sign on your right hand side

Cascada Escondida

You will be able to drive a short way and then park at the entrance.  You'll see this kiosk where you need to park and pay the entrance fee.  The trail is open 7 days a week between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm and the entrance fee is $3.00 per person.  The trail is on private property and the entrance fees go to maintaining the trail....which are very well maintained!

This is a pretty easy ascent and the hike will take you anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.  My recommendation is to go slow and take in all the beauty around you.  Returning back is easier and will probably take another hour.  I would think all fitness levels could do this with a bit of stamina.

Here are a few pictures of what you are about to do:  Enjoy!
