JaWakta / Hidden Waterfall

This is a gift and a treasure.  You can thank me later.

Here are driving directions to a place that is either called JaWakta or the Hidden Waterfall.  I would imagine driving time is about 45 minutes from Boquete.

(At the bottom of the page, use the buttons below to download or print this page)

Start out on the main street of Boquete at Central Park and go South towards David.  Go 12.2 km (7.6 miles) and take a left on the road to Caldera.  The left turn will have a pedestrian overpass at it.  (actually, as of this writing this intersection is where the police checkpoint is located)

Caldera Rd Boquete Panama

Immediately trip your odometer as soon as you make the turn onto Caldera Rd.  You will follow this road for 21.8 kms (13.5 miles)  You will go through the town of Caldera and towards a town called Chiriquicita.  You will pass many (6 or so) small bridges and they all look different.  When you get close to 21.8 kms, look for this bridge –

Immediately after passing this bridge you will come to a pretty tight turn to the right.  Park right at or before that turn, there are quite a few places to park on the side of the road.  Next to the gate, you will see this sign and know you are at the right place

no-pase

That sign is actually for the property next to it – HOWEVER (!!) This IS private property as well, so please do not leave any footprints when you leave.   There is a gate to the left of this sign that you can unhook and go through.  Please hook/lock the gate back when you go through as livestock are present .  Walk around  to your left and go near the house.  Someone will come out to have you sign your name/address and to collect a $2.00 fee per person.  From there – follow the trail, which is about a 10 minute walk to the waterfall.

Do not stay past 5pm

Enjoy, it’s spectacular and the swimming hole is deep.
